Last Saturday we attended an event to mark another first for honey bees in the Moy Valley region: the Ballina Karen Community Garden was one of only three in the county to win a green flag. We
have worked with Chris Slack, the community gardeners and Ballina men's
shed in recent times and, in light of their enthusiasm, knowledge and
commitment, we are not at all surprised to hear of this award. The
presence of a productive hive of honey bees could only have enhanced the
garden and we are grateful for the pollinator frielndly plants which have been
carefully sourced and planted in large swathes in the past year since
the arrival of our bees. We enjoy meeting
members of the Karen community, and having a pleasant chat over the
hedge with Bishop Flemming, when we are there to check on our bees and the
variety and amount of fruit and vegetables grown there never fails to
impress. Thank you for having us and our bees and for inviting us to
your flag raising day. Continued success. Read all about this new category of green flags here: https://sites.google.com/site/moyvalleybeesblack/diary-1/ballinacommunitygarden-honeybeesandgardenerswinacommunitygreenflagaward |
